| Well those weird Kiwis are at it again. Their politicians seem to be thinking it's a good idea to bring in a law about "Guilt Upon Accusation". Basically they want to bring in the law so that anyone accused of breaking copy right may have their internet cut off without warning, or at least that is what I've heard/read. Read up about it, have a laugh at Charity and maybe try and do your bit to saving the internet for everybody (This laws only for NZ however we should save it even for them kiwi's if we can) by signing an online partition if you disagree with this. NZ Internet BlackoutSorry I can't help but to laugh at this, however I've signed the partition. Squeak. | |

| Was it necessary to include quite so much Kiwi bashing in the thread? At least us Kiwis can spell petition. Is a stupid law though. I wonder if I'll get spanked for DLing off Youtube. | |

| Reminds me of one I saw recently about internet laws in the US to protect children. The law would force people to become their own big brothers and retain records for 2 years to aid in police investigations, in case your neighbour was a notorious sex fiend (or you were). This after the government has convinced me that my neighbours are terrorists... I'm running out of neighbours to collect my mail when I'm away. Anyway, I liked response #4 of the thread following the article. - Quote :
This is some of the most two-faced, hypocritical grandstanding I've ever seen. These people don't give two shits for the "innocent children". They're just using the issue to grab more power. They want to help the innocent children? How about FUNDING SCHOOLS? How about nutritional programs? How about creating jobs for their families? These fucking Republican shitbags make me sick with their hand-wringing, back-stabbing BULLSHIT. *sigh* That felt good. For about three seconds. I can't even look at a nice wholesome middle eastern war these days without seeing it as some conspiratorial asset grab*. The internet is some more prime real estate. But it's infinitely big, extremely democratic, and mostly free. Need some more laws to fascist it up some. But first you need an enemy. Internet predators are easy, and no one will stand up to laws like those for fear of defending slime or being tarred in slime by association. But turning people against online piracy will be tricky... 99% of people have their finger in the pie. And it's good pie. Still, I paid the $100 for each of the last few PC games I purchased. But only one of them was worth it. * it is.

Sex fiend terrorists. They'll put child porn in your letterbomb. Of course that becomes pretty useless after the bomb goes off when you open it but sex fiend terrorists aren't known to be smart anyway of course.

| Sorry charity I love bashing Kiwi's far to much, I'll try and remember to go easy next time I find something so..... interesting. I'm somewhat hopeful they scrap the law for those that actually live over their, it's just something that shouldn't be happening.
Also Baron love your posts as always.

| From viewing old posts while bored I will note that the law has yet to be passed due to fighting against it. I'm not sure they've given up yet though. | |

| http://www.freedomtodiffer.com/freedom_to_differ/2009/02/iinet-copyright-case-update.html If its any consolation. NZ is just trying to get a law passed without any support, so it probably wont be. But theres a major test case here in Oz that if won will set a precedent for ISPs being forced to warn customers about DLing illegal content and then cut off their internet, otherwise the ISPs will be heavily fined and face courtroom drama. What happens in the courts is what really gets laws pushed through, and with a precedent theres nothing anyone can do to stop it, unless youre nerdy types want to band together and pay for a hot shot lawyer to help fight the case. | |
