Aeon PW
All

It has been a good run with Aeon, but all things run their course and come to an end. I have watched Aeon slowly grow then die off as people moved onto other interests or found worlds that appeal to them more. Instead of leaving the server up and running empty, I have decided to turn off the server and close the player portion of the forums.

I would like to thank those that have put in their time and effort, either as DM's, builders or players. Without your efforts a world can not exist or grow into something more than a concept.

So what next, for me I am not sure, perhaps I shall learn something else perhaps not. I do know my power bill will be smaller next month, so out of sad endings a positive comes.

Goodbye and Goodluck.

Is anyone else getting pop ups when they log into the forum? I keep getting a banner up the top about being the zillionth person to go on the site and I've one big time. If only it were true.... Cool

Anyone, is it just me, or is it an issue for others?

Cheers
Madds.

Not for Firefox users.

Tools > Options > Content > Block Popup Windows

After OS re-installs I never download the Flash plugin, and I block jpeg advertisements on websites so it's a mostly an ad free experience. Hallelujah!

It's also kind of a necessity when still using dialup. Marketers don't seem to understand that I just want the text within the hour, and I can't spare precious kilobytes on their annoying jingle. I even turn off sigs and avatars at very little sacrifice to my enjoyment of life. I don't think broadband is all that necessary if people JUST exchanged ideas in text, and well... ASCII porn isn't all that bad once you get use to it.

I get them and hate them. I am wondering if the forum owners have decided to start including them as a revenue raiser.

I don't think it would be that Spor. The ads are probably there to be more like sigs. Or forwarded email. "Heya, so I found this ad about boat insurance and I thought maybe one of you guys might own one - regards, Admin."

The strange thing is they get such a miniscule fee for every thousand click throughs that I never understood why people bother. I'd build up a site first*, then once I had 100,000 visitors I'd start increasing the ads. But for these gaming sites perhaps it is worth seven of us contributing six cents each and saying, "hey, how's about keeping the site ad free until 2016... we raised the necessary revenue."

I'm guessing the forum owners have a bunch of these sites and it all ads up to enough for the occasional upsizing on his Sprite to make it all worth while.

I just figured it all out - a personal reflection. Recently I'd been amused to discover a book on Communist Propanganda posters. In a short time I had tracked down China, Russia, and North Korea! I love 'em... the artwork, the stances, the determined set of the jaws, the portrayal of the evil capitalistic aggressors. With the commies its all about the 'We'. With the Capitalist Propaganda posters (we'll call it 'Advertising') it's all about the self.** That would be fine, but it's never really motivating, not like the Reds, not even Nike ads. It's "your Self isn't complete... without our patented motorised kitchen appliance! Or our shoe. Or our name on your clothing."

An endless string of demotivational communique, day in day out. Multiple carrots held before the donkey he can never obtain.

It's why I am a commie. That, and I enjoy spying on my neighbours. You have to once you give up TV. (Don't blame me, blame Big Brother! It planted the seed... but now I choose who to stalk. Whom to evict.)

Just on that... I watched an extraordinary film about East Berlin called 'The Lives of Others'. Anyone without Transformers in your collection might really enjoy it. An amazing film. ....It's funny the path the mind takes wandering from 'forum Pop Ups'. But then, it's the journey not the destination.

* I think my blog on Sigil's had about 3 unique visitors. A success in my view, as I wrote it for me and just one other person.
** It can be about the 'We'... but then it's 'You can join the We if you drink our carbonated sugar water.... until then you're necessarily Ostracized.'

I'm not such a bad neighbour. I'll just be standing there, at your window, drinking a beer and watching.

It woudl be better Baron if you could watch the goings in my house through the window and post it on a blog for my comment. POtentially you could create a multitude of these blogs with part of your boservations and I need to collect all of them to truly understand your message and observations.

I need a beer, stupid antibiotics. On the plus, I could currently have a slash on another person infected wound in full confidence that it would actually help the healing process due to the excess chemicals being flushed from my system.

Yup my mind wandered as well..

You know, when I first moved here I was on my own and the very friendly, much older guy next door invited me over to have dinner with him and his wife. Only when I got there, the wife was away. Exclamation One of the many, many things he discussed that night while I painfully sat through dinner, was how much he'd like to stand outside my window with a beer and listen to me 'entertain some male/female companions'. Believe me, that was the tamest thing he said, and the next day I hot footed it down to the cop shop to report him as a looney. lol! Shocked If its going to happen to anyone, it happens to me Laughing

So really, you don't scare me. Well, maybe slightly...... Cool

Damn, that does sound creepy when someone says it and means it. Actually, I lied... its a little the opposite. I planted a hedge that would grow above the fence and eye line. Neighbourhood Watch... **** that.
